Our August meeting was truly awe inspiring, held in the home and art studio of Elise Black. Her entire home is a showcase, surrounding you with amazing, unusual art in many different mediums… 2D, 3D, mixed media, sculpture, and more.
Our meeting was held among an outstanding array of refreshments, also created by Elise! After our meeting we were treated to a tour through her house and studio.
Elise has a diverse and vast collection of available art in all price points or can create a site specific piece to fulfill whatever you are envisioning for your project!
Great meeting and great art!

Our Connecticut Chapter won 1st place for Best Charity Event! We all know how hard we worked to pull that off in such a short amount of time.
Our next charity event will be November 2nd and is already in the works thanks to Holly Sutton-Darr and the CHAIR-ity committee. The recipient will be New Reach (newreach.org). Check them out online and see why they are the worthy recipients.
Held at I.M.Smitten, we were treated to a look into how the artists work to create their designs on headboards.

We had a fabulous evening meeting at Sorelle Art Gallery in New Canaan where we viewed beautiful artwork, learned about the artists and learned how we can work together as designers with the gallery to offer original artwork to our clients.
Thanks to Sandy Pelletier, gallery owner, & Miranda Girard, director, for their generous hospitality and informative presentation.
We also had the pleasure of viewing the gorgeous Designer Vignette by our very own IDS Designer, Beth Krupa.
Thank you Westport Carpet and Marjon Hashemi! We spent the morning being introduced to various carpet types and area rugs. With a wide selection of all types of carpeting and rugs we came away with some knowledge for our forward efforts with our clients.
It looks like silk / wool orientals are hot hot hot! So beautiful as well.

We started the year off right! Thank you Tile America in Fairfield for hosting our January meeting! Thank you Sheri Sorrentino-Snellman for the wonderful presentation on the latest color, finish, and style trends in tile. On January 1st I stepped down from chapter President after 4 years. Each year brought new challenges that were met with intent to do the very best for our chapter. I’m proud of all we accomplished together over all that time and stepping down is bittersweet for me, but it is time!
I am confident in our new President, Kathleen Bivona, and know she will put her all into this position to bring you the best of everything for 2017 and beyond.
Thank you all for standing beside me and helping to make our chapter better and stronger throughout the years. Your support meant the world to me.

Another year has passed by and we celebrated that and each other at our Holiday Luncheon on December 6th at Jeffrey’s Restaurant, 501 New Haven Ave, Milford, CT.
Well attended, we had a visit from Jenny Cano, NEW Executive Director of IDS. Things are changing for the better and Jenny is leading us in the right direction. She is completely accessible anytime you want to contact her.
Wishing you and your family all the magic the season holds and a Happy & Healthy & Prosperous New Year! Let’s go 2017!
We enjoyed a warm welcome at Schwartz Design Showroom on a rainy, dismal day. With so much to see in their large showroom you can rely on showroom staff to help you put together a room or single element for your client’s home.

Life Designs Rep Amy Lynn held a vendor show for us at the Marriott Courtyard in Shelton where she showed us her many lines available to designers only. With so many wonderful resources to choose from it can be overwhelming even to designers!
Amy brought us some unexpected lines to us with great reputations and quick turnaround time. Her lines are definitely among the top and Amy is easy to work with.

For all who joined us on Tuesday, thank you for supporting your IDS Chapter!
…was a lively discussion among designers, Industry Partners, and vendors. Once a year we have a “round table discussion” where we voice our successes and concerns, usually following a specific topic.
Our topic was, “Why Hire a Designer”?
Sharing advice about our businesses and practices is a natural part of the Connecticut Chapter of IDS. We are a community. We’re here to help you succeed!
Please join us at our “CHAIR-ity” event benefiting The Center For Family Justice featuring custom designed chairs by local designers and artists. The chairs will be presented in a silent auction and all proceeds from chair sales will benefit FJC.
The Family Justice Center approach is based on the San Diego Family Justice Center model that opened in 2002. The model has been defined as a best practice in the field of domestic violence intervention and prevention services by the United States Department of Justice. The Center would like to create a community where there is zero tolerance of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The Family Justice Center can help make this vision a reality.
IDS Connecticut supports the Center For Family Justice and we are excited to present this CHAIR-ity” event. Please join us for an evening event for this very worthy cause.
